MCARE’s Inaugural Racial Equity Awards Luncheon

It's so important for us to celebrate our accomplishments and honor leaders in the movement to advance social justice in Miami.

That's why we're excited to announce that Catalyst Miami CEO Zelalem Adefris will deliver the keynote address at the MCARE Racial Equity Awards Luncheon. As many of you know, Catalyst Miami was founded in 1996 by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava, and has emerged as Miami's premier social justice organization, training grassroots leaders to build power and address systemic injustices.

Here are the 2023 MCARE Racial Equity Awards honorees:

- Florida State Senator Shevrin "Shev" Jones, the 2023 MCARE Government Service Hero, for his unwavering leadership in opposing Florida's attempts to curtail African-American studies and present a distorted narrative of slavery.

- Valencia Gunder, the 2023 MCARE Community Activist Hero, for her longstanding commitment to serving highly vulnerable populations of people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

- Jonathan Gartrelle, the 2023 MCARE Young Activist Hero, as the enthusiastic and passionate voice of numerous protest rallies against systemic injustices throughout South Florida.

Our Luncheon will also feature a special video memorial honoring the legacy of Danny Agnew. As many of you know, Danny was a Liberty City activist and entrepreneur who exemplified the charge to "Be the Change" to empower disenfranchised communities and advance racial justice in Miami.

We believe in investing in the community and so local minority-owned businesses will cater the Luncheon and lead the set-up and logistics of the Awards Ceremony.

Please join us 11:30am to 1:30pm on Friday, October 6th at the SMASH House, 1611 NW 65th Street, Miami Florida, 33147 to honor these leaders, celebrate Danny's legacy and support the Liberty City community.
